Is My Child Ready For A Cell Phone Giveaway

Is My Child Ready For A Cell Phone Giveaway

This is a huge question now-a-days. There is the worry of when your kid is dropped off somewhere. If something happens at school can you get a hold of your child? What about the child having divorced parents and you want to get ahold of them? Let's not forget peer pressure. Some how I managed my youth without a cell phone. We used house phones or payphones. But both are a thing of that past. Many households don't even have landlines. There are questions to ask, to know if your child is ready for a cell phone. Sprint is there for parents to help tackle tough questions.

Average Age Of Kid With A Cell Phone.

When I read this I was shocked. If this is the average, what is the low age? 8? That means either you have to have a very responsible kid or make sure you have a customized phone to protect your kid. There are a lot of predators on social media. If you are in doubt take the Online Quiz Sprint offers to help parents make informed decisions. There is even a customized parent-child mobile contract to set parameters and agree upon rules and limits. 64 percent of kids already have internet access via personal tablets/laptops. According to Sprint 1 in 2 kids will have a social media account by age 12. I think in the last year that number is higher. So, when is your child ready for a cell phone?

  Questions To Ask Yourself:
  1. What will my child be using this phone for? Is it a want or a need?
  2. What rules do I want in the cell phone contract?
  3. What will happen if my child breaks the rules?
  4. Do I want my child to have full access to the internet or what restrictions am I setting up the phone with? Do I want my child to have social media? If yes, make sure you write all user names and passwords in the contract.
  5. Make sure to discuss what to do if cyber-bullying happens.

  1. My first rule is a time allowance..during summer it may be on after morning activities such as eating, teeth brushed, etc and must be off by 8 pm. During school it may not be on until after homework and chores are completed and must be off at 8pm.

  5. A couple of mine do have a cell phone but use it just with wifi. My rule is they only stay online for an hour a day. If they had their choice they wouldn't move off the couch and be online all day. I did have service for my oldest during school last year to call home if needed or an emergency.

  11. One rule I would have is they would have to turn their cell phones in to me, or my husband, at bedtime. That way, they're not on it all night. I already have them turn in their ipads and ipod at night.

  13. rule is to put the phone when we are having family time. I want them to know it's rude to be on the phone when someone is talking to them face to face.

A first phone is a big step for kids—one you only want to take when they’re ready for it. Check out more of the content on this site so you’ll be able to tell when your child is ready for this next step.

  22. My son has had a phone for a coulee yrs now but it is a very cheap one just in case he wasn't responsible. but with the quiz and ow well he has done,I think it's time for a better phone. My main rule is to be cautious about how much you use it. To in force that I made sure her has unlimited text but only so many minutes and no data. He has to use wifi. I did that because so many friends have complained about high bills from their kids going over. But I think I will be changing his plan to at least having data. I still like the limited minutes. I can't stand to see a child with a phone glued to their heads.

  33. Only reasons kids want phones is social media and texting. Is there truly a need kids need a phone? Maybe. Mom of 3 kids who currently have or had their own phones at some point. They all mess up. Don't be one of those oh my baby would never do blank blank blank. Lol because they will and do. Or I trust my child or they are mature for their age. Blah blah blah. Get over that mom's and get real! I know exactly what I would have been doing if I had a smart phone as a kid, like mostly doing my homework. Lol.
