Almost 3 weeks ago I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl and while she is not my first baby it feels like it . The last time I had a newborn in my arms (least one I gave birth to) was 15 years ago, my eldest daughter is 18 now and my son 15. While I remember my babies faces, weight, height, time of birth, eyes, hair color and the newborn basic care, there are so many things I dont remember. Like her siblings Catalina was born via C- Section and it took me a couple of hours to be completely functional to care for my princess.
I had a hard time breastfeeding, she was to lazy to latch and we decided to use a pump and feed her with bottles. Breastfeeding was my biggest fear and yet it was easily overcome. There are so many small things to remember with a baby like: umbilical cord care, sterilizing bottles, handling pacifiers, how to hold your baby, fever temperature, burping time, bathing time and so many others. However my biggest challenge (and my husband too) was diaper changing after 15 years I completely forgot about it and anything related. My biggest surprise was the colors...... when I saw her diaper and its contents, it was black; I have had dogs and cats more often than newborns around home and when my puppies poop black it means parvo-virus,since the stool has blood on it.
After seeing the color (black) I freak out, and since English is not my first language (is not even my third), I cant process any info given on English while I have a panic attack (I can barely process info in Spanish either), so talking to the nurse would have been a waste of time, I decided to make a long distance call to Bolivia to ask my sister, when she didn't answer I went online; reading English while having a panic attack is as hard as speaking so I had to Google it in Spanish. I found the info and figured out black was ok the first couple of days. Three days later the diaper was neon green and again I thought it was not normal so I had to find more info. It seems black, green and yellow are ok for newborns.
While the stool color is a problem finding good diapers was never a big deal for us, my eldest were Pampers babies and so is my little one, of course we didn't have swaddlers back then, Pampers diapers fit great and are super absorbent The fact that Pampers website is available in Spanish and English gives the brand some extra points in my book. I live in Texas and there are so many Spanish Speakers (hispanohablantes) so it helps moms like me or moms who just do not speak English yet or are learning it and to feel more comfortable reading it in Spanish.I found this chart extremely helpful and it might help other mommies who also speak Spanish:
Now with all those dirty diapers, avoiding a diaper rash is hard but not impossible I love the new Pamper Baby Wipes Sensitive with a touch of aloe vera, the arenwipes gentle and soft perfect for your baby's sensitive skin
